Update as of February 2012:
It is with great excitement that I inform you that approximately $28,000 was raised for the Centre Vie Orphanage in St. Marc, Haiti in 2011. This is all due to our kind and generous sponsors and donors. First Baptist Church in Smiths Falls, Ontario, was responsible for sending over half of the funding needed to ensure that Centre Vie stays open. The estimated amount that Centre Vie needs annually is $55,000. This past year, the difference was made up by my partner’s (Dieudonne Batraville) contacts who gave sporadic donations. This may not be the case this year so more help is needed!! We are grateful for everyone who has jumped onboard to help the kids but we continue to pray that the full amount that the orphanage needs, will be met each year. Please help by spreading the word about our program and referring people to our website so that they can read up on this ministry: centrevie.org
Because our program is growing (praise God!), First Baptist Church recently made the decision to enlist the aid of a larger organization to oversee the financial aspect of the program, provide aid where needed and conduct inspections at Centre Vie. From here on in, FBC will be partnering with an organization called“Gospel Crusade of Canada.” Gospel Crusade of Canada, is a registered Canadian charity, and as such is a“qualified donee” as per subsections 110.1(1)(a) and 118.1(1) of the Income Tax Act. Gospel Crusade has been active in Haiti since 1996. For their ministry (charitable) work, the Board of Directors operates in direct ministry and under an agency agreement with Benite Jeune, a Haitian citizen. Since 1996, they have built many churches and schools and have many sponsored children in several schools.
For their various services in helping to oversee the Centre Vie Sponsorship/Donation Program, Gospel Crusade of Canada will be retaining a 10% administration fee from any monies disbursed for the benefit of Centre Vie. To offset this fee, First Baptist Church has agreed to do an annual fundraiser which will hopefully, make up the difference. They also took up a donation on Christmas Eve (2011) which raised $723.00. This combined with an annual fundraiser, should offset the 10% fee that Gospel Crusade of Canada charges for their services. Nothing is changing on the front lines...the only changes lie in the administrative aspect of the program.
I hope that you will continue to support this ministry and I pray that it continues to grow. The children at the Centre Vie Orphanage are thriving and I hope that this continues to be the case. They are all receiving love, healthy food, an education, and medicines when needed. You could be sponsoring a future doctor, nurse, teacher, pilot etc...With an education, the opportunities are endless. The children are working hard because they know the value of education and they want to be productive citizens who are agents for change in Haiti.
If you are already helping us - THANK YOU. If you are thinking about helping us - THANK YOU. Every little bit helps and although we may not be be able to change the entire world, we can certainly change the world for a few. The ripple effect will be tremendous.
May God Bless You,
